How well is the statewide workplace smoking ban working?

Posted by db last modified January 15, 2008

Twenty-nine bars and restaurants surveyed in Ohio before and after the ban went into effect benefitted by a remarkable drop in fine particulate air pollution.

The Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation engaged the Roswell Park Cancer Institute to measure the effect of the Ohio Smokefree Workplace Act on the quality of air in 29 hospitality venues throughout Ohio. Measurements were taken before and after the act was implemented on December 6, 2006. Venues that went smoke free had, on average, a 94% decrease of fine particulate air pollution. Venues in Lakewood were included in the survey.
