Only one in three Cuyahoga County adults is at normal weight
Data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention surveying Cuyahoga County adults in 2009 report that one on three (35.7%) is at normal weight, more than one in three is overweight (38.0%) and one in four is obese (26.3%)
One in every four adults in Cuyahoga County in 2009 is obese, according to data from the Centers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Another third (35.7%) is at normal weight and more than one third (38.0%) is overweight.
The data were collected using telephone surveys coordinated as part of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) and can be accessed at this link directly or at the BRFSS site at this link for data on the entire local wide area (Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor). Normal, overweight and obese are determined using the BMI, or body mass index. BMI is an index that uses the height and weight. BMI charts are available for adults, teens and children at the CDC's website (use this link.)

Year-to-year variation is normal in any survey of residents across a wide area. There has not been much change in BMI levels among county adults in the past four years.
These results are not very different that for Ohio, where in 2009, 33.3% of adults were at normal weight (BMI), 37.0 were overweight and 29.8 were obese. Data for all states for 2009 are available at this link.
